Creepy, Ugly & Annoying (Aliens, Predators & Marines)

Founded in 1992, Rebellion Software became known worldwide shortly after the release of Alien vs. Predator for the Atari Jaguar, one of best games ever released for that system. Published by Atari, this first-person shooter took place entirely on a Colonial Marine Training base and allowed players play as one of three characters: Private Lance Lewis of the Colonial Marines whose mission is to find a way to self-destruct the base; an Alien that had to protect the Queen from the Marines and the Predators; a Predator whose mission was to kill the Alien Queen.

Fast forward to 2009 and following the release of two feature films that depicted Aliens fighting against Predators, SEGA has obtained the publishing rights to release a video game based on the Twentieth Century Fox’s Aliens universe. The Japanese publisher has hired the creators of the original 1994 Aliens versus Predator hoping the British developer will once again set a new standard in multiplayer gaming. Judging by the first screenshots and info revealed in two European magazines, there are chances Rebellion will succeed once more.

world-exclusive preview in Nuts Magazine has revealed that this new Aliens vs Predator video game takes place in a distant, Earth-like planet thirty years after the first Alien movie. The planet has been subjugated by the nasty Xenomorphs and for that reason Colonial Marines have been dispatched to exterminate the parasitic creatures. With that war going on, guess who arrive to have their own party?

The preview in the British magazine has confirmed what every AVP fan expected: the game will feature three species-specific single-player campaigns plus three-way Alien vs. Predator vs. Human online multiplayer modes.

A preview on Spanish magazine PlayManĂa has the very first screenshots of the game and we must say they look fantastic. Lighting is superb and it helps set the frightening atmosphere you’d expect in those dark corridors infected of Aliens. The geometry and textures of the models look photorealistic and the game looks like a Twentieth Century Fox AvP film.
PlayManĂa confirms that Colonial Marines will be armed to the teeth and will carry lot of gadgets such as IR scanners to help detect movement, while Predators will have the ability to cloak and see through different visual frequencies, including infrared to track humans and a specifically tuned EM Field Detector used to track Aliens. The latter will be the fastest of the three species and they will be able to move through ceilings and walls, watch in the dark, fall from high altitudes without suffering damages, with their weapons being their claws, deadly tail and their acid blood.

We’ll have to wait until E3 next month to find out more about the single player campaign and multiplayer modes. Scheduled for release in 2010, Aliens vs. Predator is the third SEGA Aliens franchise game, which will be the first to launch in the series.

There is an awesome preview in theis month's OXM, get it!

thanks to xbox.com for the info

Red Faction Demo Smashes it's way onto Xbox Live

The Red Faction Guerrilla demo (on & offline) is available and certainly looks the business! Personally I have only played the offline (campaign) demo and to begin with thought it was a pretty standard shooter, reminding me a little of Lost Planet but with the temperature dial turned up... after a while it revealed itself to be a complete riot! Smash everything! The map preview at the end of the demo suggests a giant open world reminicent of Far Cry 2. With any luck the multiplayer will be equally as impressive - team deathmatches with completely destructable environments should make for some pretty crazy battles! This game is right on my list!

Modern Warfare 2 blown wide open

Modern Warfare 2 takes players to the snow-capped peaks of Russian mountains, across the deserts of Afghanistan and into the streets of Rio de Janeiro, and introduces a new co-operative Special Forces mode to back up the single-player campaign.

That's all according to a 10-page cover feature in the latest issue of US magazine Game Informer, which says little about the game's online elements but details plans for various missions in the story mode.

"The gameplay is wide open and has a lot of variety," Infinity Ward president Jason West told Game Informer. "In terms of the story... well, any good story is on rails." The game is set against the backdrop of continuing Russian instability, with a new baddy, Makarov, using Zakhaev's demise as justification for naughtiness.

Players will have to deal with the realities of flawed intelligence, however, and missions will evolve as a result. In one example, the player and a computer-controlled version of "Soap" MacTavish assault a mountain base in a blizzard with the intention of blowing it up, but then the player spies a satellite in a building and has to nick some information about it before escaping.

Rigging explosives involves creeping through the blizzard, which dramatically reduces visibility, and using a mixture of a heartbeat sensor and MacTavish's thermal vision to either evade or neutralise guards. Once the jig is inevitably up, there's an escape on snowmobiles.

Other missions include hunting down an arms dealer in Rio, which evolves into a running gunfight with militia among fleeing civilians, and traipsing across rope bridges through hidden valleys in the vast open of Afghanistan, which is all rendered at the game's requisite 60 frames-per-second. Then it's back to Russia, apparently, to try and disable AA guns interfering with UAV Predator targeting.

Special Forces mode, meanwhile, is "in the spirit of Mile High Club", according to West, who told Game Informer that it will use tricky scenarios that didn't make it into the single-player game and thus have no relationship with the difficulty curve.

"[Co-op] made a lot more sense here," West said, explaining that the levels were designed with two players in mind. Co-op tweaks include an on-screen arrow pointing to the other player, and a mini-map highlighting your relative locations.

There's no word on competitive online multiplayer, or whether Special Forces is playable over the internet, but West did tell Game Informer that the studio likes "making people famous", and that it hopes to convince Microsoft and Sony to let it tweak variables like spawn logic without issuing a full patch.

Finally, West addressed a couple of criticisms of COD4, saying the team is "actively trying to eliminate" the issue of endlessly respawning enemies, which was based on the way scripting responded to your movement through the level. He also said he was "very happy with Modern Warfare 1 and the length of it".

All you need is Rockband

Some kit revealed, looking awesome!

Renders of DJ Hero controller

The Twitter account @DJHero has posted what are allegedly the first images of the DJ Hero controller.

Joystiq are currently following up with Activision to confirm the authenticity of the account and the images. In the meantime, feel free to give opinions on the design.

Update: Although we've yet to receive official word from Activision, a recent press release from Activision's UK PR firm included the images.

Weapon Specs

Simply put we have the most advanced simulated laser system available. Don't be hoodwinked into what other operators may tell you, they lie!Our gun frames are very realistic and expensive, they weigh and function in very much the same way as their real steel counterparts.

Ammunition:
Ammo is loaded using real magazines. This feature is really cool as the magazine itself remembers how much ammo it's holding. So if you use half a mag and then throw it to your buddy the ammo inside will not change. Ammo is reloaded for every game and it's free of charge.

Loading The Rifle:
When you insert a loaded magazine you will need to charge it. This is done by racking back the charging lever, just like the real deal. Once a round is loaded you can fire it. If you remove the magazine there will still be a single round in the barrel which can be fired. After that it's that nasty dead man's click!

Firing:
There are 3 fire settings that are controlled by the fire selector switch
Safe - this will prevent the trigger from working

Auto - This will fire all the rounds in your magazine whilst depressed
Semi - Single shot mode

Aiming:
Each rifle has a basic sight attached. Your Ghost Leaders will teach you the basics just before your game. Upgrades can be hired on site so you can pimp your rifle and improve your reaction time by fitting a reflex sight.

Range:
A massive 1,500 feet has been our maximum shot distance to date during medium daylight conditions. Range is always influenced by the weather. Rain, snow, mist and very bright sunlight will have a direct effect and reduce the range. But never to a degree that will hinder the game play.

Laser:
There's no laser in them, so the product is 100% eye safe. The system uses a special optics tube to transmit a coded signal. This is a direct beam so no knowledge of windage or elevation techniques are required. Good marksmanship on the other hand is a must to be able to hit a target at great distance.

Freedom:
Each rifle is 100% wireless. No stupid cables are attached between you and your rifle.

Hits and FX:
When you hit another player their life allocation is reduced. When you get shot your life is deducted. The guns play loud sound samples to mimic the real deal. When you get killed your weapon system shuts down until you can be re-spawned by a Ghost Leader.

Near Miss:
If another player fires at you and misses the shot will generate a sound sample of a bullet (lead wasp) flying right pass you. Makes you keep ya head down!

Mission Overview , what we should be up to on the warday

09.30 for 10.00 am Arrival at site
After registration you will be given a short tour of the gaming facility.
This is followed by a Health & Safety briefing to ensure every player understands the rules.
Each player will then be issued with their tactical kit.

Mission 1: This is generally a warm up game to get you familiarised with the weapons. Normally it will be a Force-On-Force mission.

Mission 2:
Escort a VIP.
Your team will have to deliver an important package in the form of a human being. Get them through enemy lines and protect them at the extraction zone until the game times out.

Mission 3:
Capture the bag.
Rather like capture the flag, but with a bag instead.

Mission 4:
Team Elimination.
Track down and destroy the other side

Mission 5:
Sniper Hunt.
A team of snipers have been deployed. Your mission is to hunt them down and frag em before they get you or the game times out.

Mission 6:
Destroy and Protect.
A damaged Armoured Personnel Carrier needs repairing. Can your team locate the repair kit and hold off the enemy long enough to fix it?

Mission 7:
Ghost Leader Hunt. Time permitting your teams get to take on the marshalls and play them at their own game.
Normally it's 2 against all.

Sony grabs Ghostbusters from Atari

Sony Computer Entertainment will now be publishing Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters title in a surprise deal signed with Atari today, according to GamesIndustry.biz.

The game is set for a June 19 release alongside the Sony Pictures film, but only on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 platforms.

They will have a period of exclusivity lasting several months until the PSP edition is launched.

It is unclear exactly what will happen to the Xbox 360 version of the game, although GamesIndustry.biz understands that Atari may look to publish it later on.

This will be the third publisher within a year for the Ghostbusters game. The former Vivendi title was dropped by Activision in the merger last summer, before subsequently being picked up by Atari.

"Wow! Talk about telekinetic activity, look at this mess!"

ALL I CAN SAY IS BUGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New COD: World at War maps in June

Activision has announced the imaginatively-titled Map Pack 2 for its hit FPS Call of Duty: World at War.
The add-on will be available in June for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The downloadable content will include four new maps: three for competitive multiplayer, and one for the fanciful co-op Zombies mode.

There will be 10 new Achievements and Trophies.

There's no word on price.

The new maps are: Banzai, a fight for control of a river bridge; Corrosion, a scrap in a Russian train yard; Sub Pens, a bombed-out submarine base; and Shi No Numa (Zombie Swamp), which features Imperial Japanese zombies, hell hounds, traps and more.
