CoD4 sells over 9 million copies and breaks DLC Records

According to the NPD figures which were released today, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has officially sold over 9 Million copies worldwide since it’s release!
In addition, the Variety Map Pack we recently released on Xbox Live; has broke Xbox Live Marketplace records pulling down over 1 Million downloads within it’s first 9 days.
Not to mention pulling down Xbox Live Marketplace in the process when it launched.
Some cool numbers we pulled recently to see just how much gameplay that actually is, shows that Xbox LIVE members played more than 30 million sessions and logged over 30 million hours of gameplay!! We’re talking 1.9 billion minutes logged in the first 9 days!!

OK WARDAY 2008 ALL BOOKED
Hi all the warday is all booked and paid for, just thought i would re post what the day will include:
Combat Induction
- Book- In -
Health & Safety Guidelines -
Mission Objectives Explained -
Weapons Skills Training -
Kit-Up for Action -
Kill House Operations -
Missions Tactical Skills
The first part of the day involves the group being split. One group will use the projectile range and the other will use the CQB house. Each group will learn how to sight aim and fire a pistol and assault rifle. A number of dynamic skills are demonstrated including learning how to fire from both left and right handed positions. The CQB skills include learning how to sweep and search a series of rooms and walkways learning the best way to tactically enter and clear a hostile area.
Stage 1
Each member of your team will be coached through the CQB section on an instructor to player basis. After the first sweep of the arena the player will repeat the circuit again this time using their machine gun to hit a number of targets. This is repeated until all members have completed the arena in pairs and finally a team of four. After the team is familiar with the procedures you will learn how to clear a room and perform a dynamic entry using a flash grenade.
Stage 2
After stage 1has been completed we switch your weapons to .43 tactical markers. Your team will then be set a number of time sensitive scenarios to complete against live attackers who will shoot at you until taken down. These include:- Rescue a hostage - Search and Clear - Locate and disarm an explosive device- Team on Team - Escort a VIP

Airsoft AEG weapons are great for drills, they hold a very large capacity of ammunition and look very and feel very real. The range is very limited due to the 6mm plastic BB rounds being susceptible to the elements. They have their place in any simulated weapon arsenal and are great fun. During our events we restrict the amount of rounds allocated to each weapon, it's totally unrealistic to do otherwise
this is just one of the guns we will be playing with.

Microsoft working on Wii remote ripoff for Xbox 360

The Nintendo Wii's remote, with its motion sensing abilities, have made the console a breakout success, with it still difficult to come by in stores well over a year after its launch.
So is it really any surprise that Microsoft is looking to pretty much rip the Wiimote off completely for its Xbox 360 controller? According to MTV News, a source within Microsoft alleges that a motion-sensitive controller and Mii-like avatar system are being developed for release at the end of the year. Will these things help the Xbox destroy the Wii in the battle of the consoles, or will it just feel like a cheap ripoff? Time will tell.

Oh dear!

Xbox 360 Version Of Wii Remote Has Been In Development Since Summer, Source Exclusively Tells MTV News
Source provides sketch of prototype controller.
By Patrick Klepek
Del.icio.us Digg Newsvine Send to Friend Print You Tell Us
If everything gresponse to Nintendo's Wii will appear before the end of the year, a developer who has been briefed on the project told MTV News. The Xbox 360 manufacturer has been working on its own version of the motion-controlled Wii remote since last summer, the developer said.
Since Nintendo's Wii became a global sensation and Sony launched a PS3 controller that is also motion-sensitive, rumors have reverberated through the gaming industry that Microsoft would create a motion-controller of its own.
While nothing has been officially announced, MTV News' source was able to provide us with details on one such 360 controller in the making: a controller designed to do all the Wii remote does, and more. Our source chose to remain anonymous in the interest of not compromising business relationships, but MTV News has confirmed Microsoft's active interest in developing a motion-sensitive controller with other industry sources.
The project has been in active development at Microsoft since last August, the source said. Rare, the Microsoft-owned studio behind Xbox 360's launch first-person shooter "Perfect Dark Zero" and the upcoming installment of the "Banjo-Kazooie" franchise, has been tasked with creating a unified interface and look for the controller. Rare has had trouble hitting its deadlines, according to the source.
When MTV News contacted Microsoft for confirmation, a spokesperson said that "Microsoft does not comment on rumors and speculation."
Our development source sketched out a reproduction of the last prototype he'd seen, although the final product — if it is indeed released — may vary from this design. A key difference between the Wii remote and the prototype is the lack of a companion controller to be placed in the other hand, like Wii's Nunchuck.
The controller itself isn't much different in functionality or design from Nintendo's Wii remote, but comes with four face buttons, an analog stick and microphone. There are also plans for the controller to interact with the Xbox Live Vision Camera, the source said.
Microsoft's controller isn't just a response to "Wii Sports"; it's slightly more ambitious. "They want the usual assortment of 'Halo'/ 'Gears'/ 'Forza'/ whatever, just in waggle form," our source told us. Such idea-generation has not gone smoothly. "The whole thing is a colossal clusterf---," the source said. "[Microsoft] marketing just want it so they can match the Wii point for point. The biggest parts of their marketing materials outline how easy it would be for third parties to port their Wii games to the 360."
In addition to designing the interface for the controller, Rare has also fleshed out Microsoft's take on Nintendo's Mii avatar concept, the source said. Microsoft's Miis are designed to be associated with any game that incorporates the controller and create a standard "look" for the games. The avatars aren't tied to a controller when in use, as Xbox Live profiles currently are.
The avatars are more detailed than what Nintendo has allowed (i.e. they have limbs), the source said, but pushing the avatars into every controller title means they "dictate the entire look and feel of every game they're in, so they have to be generic as all hell."
Rare's difficulty in hitting development milestones has produced problems, however. "Microsoft is trying to decide how to get something out by the end of the year," said MTV News' source.
While MTV News' source presented full details of the project, several developers, speaking on background, could only confirm rumors that a planned motion-controlled Xbox 360 controller is in the works. If the project is more than a prototype initiative, it's been kept quiet from some major developers.
Microsoft has previously maintained a public message that motion controllers are a compelling idea, but avoided saying they would be moving into the space themselves.
"There's room for innovation here, but moving that controller around — it's something that's not mainstream for most games," Microsoft chief Bill Gates told MTV News in May 2006. "People aren't that good at totally standing still. Even pilots actually sit in a chair when they do their flying. So there's a lot to be learned about these controllers."
Last year, former Xbox executive Peter Moore was more upbeat about the prospects, but equally coy, in a February 2007 interview with GameInformer.com. "Since the day I saw Iwata-san [Nintendo president Satoru Iwata] pull the [Wii remote] controller out from under his podium a few years ago at [the Tokyo Game Show], I've always realized that was the right thing for Nintendo to have to do for what they needed to do to be successful in this next generation," Moore said. "And it was always going to be a challenge for us. So, we have plans. This does not come as a surprise."
MTV News' source maintained that development kits for Microsoft's new controller have been distributed to certain developers. If the project comes to fruition, and when Microsoft will actually reveal its plans, remain to be seen.

CoD4 Variety Map Pack DLC
Looks like the official release time for the new Variety Map Pack DLC for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is going to be 6:30 AM PST Friday morning. It’s currently 11:47 PM Thursday night at the time of this posting, so only 6 more hours to go before we can jump on the new maps. To go along with the news of the exact release time, Gametrailers has posted up two new videos that we shot yesterday at the Infinity Ward studios about the map pack. There should be one more in the pipeline for Chinatown, meanwhile enjoy the new Broadcast and Creek videos where I lay out some of my favorite strategies for the new maps as well as a general overview of what you can expect after 6:30 AM when the maps are available for download via Xbox Live!
In addition to the map packs hitting, I hear there may be a little extra XP up for grabs this weekend when playing on the new maps. So I’ll definitely be online this weekend to play the new maps.

CoD4: Map Pack - Not Delayed
Despite what the internet might tell you (including some “official” sources), the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variety map pack has NOT been delayed until the 10th. As of right now we’re pushing certification for an on-time release for April 3rd or 4th. As of right now though, I’m being told that it’s a good chance it will be released worldwide (except for Japan) tomorrow night / early-Friday morning.
With that said, we also have a new video up on Gametrailers that show off the new maps in action, so check it out above.
For those of you asking when you should take off work, I’d take off Friday, as it looks like they should be available late Thursday night / early Friday morning, which means Friday you should be able to play all day. Also, those of you who have tokens already (either from Game of the Year edition or won them at the Gamestop event we held) you’ll be able to use them as soon as the Map packs are available on Xbox Live.
Update for those of you who bought the Game of the Year Editions:
I see a lot of questions for those of you who have the Game of the Year Editions and visited http://gameoftheyear.callofduty.com/ where all the April 10th delay date rumors spawned from. However, I wanted to let you know that I am currently working to get that changed so that it reflects the correct release date of the maps (April 4th) as well as allows users who buy the GOTY edition to redeem their code for a token as soon as the maps are available (on April 4th) instead of April 10th. I hope that clears up any confusion and I will keep you updated if anything changes, but I wanted to let you know I’m working to make sure you’re taken care of.

Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360 still in the works
The word out of Digi Times today is that the Taiwanese manufacturerLite-On landed a contract to supply Microsoft with Blu-Ray disc drives to be used in the Xbox 360 product line and the first major shipment is to be in late 2008. Microsoft is currently not commenting on it but I am inclined to believe it for a number of reasons.
This is quite believable to me since Lite-On are already a supplier of optical disc drives to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft has always kept their options open technically and politically regarding bringing a Blu-Ray player to the Xbox 360. There are some media outlets that are going to far as to conclude that there is going to be an internal Blu-Ray drive in a future Xbox 360 and I am not likely to believe that as much as I believe that there is an external Blu-Ray player in the works.
Here are the main reasons why I think the eventual Blu-Ray player for the Xbox 360 is going to be external. The Jasper Xbox 360 motherboard is already well in the testing phase and they are putting on the final touches before ramping up manufacturing. I don't see the timing working out for it to be internal.
An internal Blu-ray drive would dramatically increase the cost of the Xbox 360 system and Microsoft is working hard to make the cost of the hardware as low as possible to reach a wide market. The phenomenal success of the Wii has them spooked and they want the cost of the Xbox 360 systems to go down as low as possible. They have never done a complete separate motherboard design and they would need to have extra hardware for Blu-Ray playback. Technically there is no difference between the Xbox 360 Arcade and the Xbox 360 Elite once you take all the external accessories off it. They made money off every external HD-DVD player sold and that business model would work out perfectly for a Blu-ray player. The cost of the a Blu-Ray drive is about $80 more than a DVD drive and I think it would be extremely unlikely that they would want to increase the cost of the 360. However an external Blu-Ray drive priced the same as a HD-DVD drive before the clearance would work great.
I do know that here are several external accessories are in the works for the Xbox line and external accessories has been a very monetarily successful market for Microsoft. A external Blu-ray drive would mean a new accessory on the store shelves in time for the holiday shopping season 2008. They already have millions of existing Xbox 360 in the hands of paying customers and I think there is a greater market opportunity for an external product. I have not had much faith in the past declarations that movies over Xbox Live marketplace were going to be the only option for movies on the Xbox. There is just not the bandwidth, storage space or content licensing opportunities for that to be a viable alternative to movies on an optical disc.
I also don't think Sony is going to go out of their way to prevent this since they are not the only company in the Blu-Ray group and they have a lot to gain if their competitors over at Microsoft started to use the movie disc format that they risked the Playstation brand to promote. Blu-Ray is a huge risk for Sony and they want EVERYBODY to use it, even Xbox owners.
I am about 95% certain that we will see an external Blu-Ray player for the Xbox 360 before Christmas 2008. We will never ever see Xbox games on a Blu-Ray disc format and Microsoft has been very clear about that. Microsoft does not want fans to choose a PlayStation 3 over an Xbox 360 just to get a Blu-Ray player. By offering an external Blu-Ray accessory there would have an alternative on the market when Joe Blow consumer eventually wants to get a Blu-Ray player this Winter.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 simply doesn't work online on PlayStation3

Worse on PS3(TM) - Rainbow Six Vegas 2 simply doesn't work online on PlayStation3
Yay! Another game for the PS3 list of shame!
You'd think developers would've got the hang of PS3 by now, but no. PS3 games are still the inferior, in-bred cousins of their Xbox 360 counterparts, and Ubisoft's R6V2 is the latest to suffer in comparisons between Xbox 360 and Sony's rubbish box.
It's so bad that Ubisoft has made an announcement that it's investigating issues on the PS3 version. Issues which include, but are not limited to, problems finding servers, problems staying connected to games, guns pointing through walls and allowing players to shoot through walls (!), random sounds appearing in the wrong places, the game crashing on its menu screens, it rebooting the PS3 in the middle of missions and... much, much more.
It's a mess, basically, with players spending hours trying to connect to online games - then getting dumped straight out of them again. Ubisoft's fault? Or Sony's bargain-bucket online system's fault?
lol

Proof Xbox LIVE Can Get You Pregnant

Best to let Xbox LIVE player Stacy explain what the hell's going on:
I just thought you might be interested to know that Mike and I met playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Lockdown. Funny thing is, we hated each other at first, but somehow ended up falling in love. I was from Georgia and he was from the Bronx. On a leap of faith we met, and we have been together ever since. If it wasn't for Xbox LIVE, our paths would have never crossed. :) We had our daughter—who we thought to be the first Xbox LIVE baby—on September 24, 2007. Maybe she's the first Xbox 360 baby, at least... I AM SO THANKFUL FOR XBOX AND THE ONLINE COMMUNITY! If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have the man of my dreams and a beautiful new baby!

If you're cheating on Xbox Live, the hammer is about to come down with full force. Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to put an end to it and embarass you as well.
A LIVE player who obtained their gamerscore in this abnormal way will
*Find their gamerscore reset to zero, and
*Be unable to regain all previously earned achievements, and
*Be labeled as a cheater for the community to view.
While players who have been identified by these criteria will start from a zero gamerscore, they will still be able to gain achievements for future games. In other words, we give them another chance to earn future achievements by earning them as other fair players do. The original gamerscore correction will remain permanent without any way to appeal.
Good to see a course of action finally being taken .

The Fight Continues - New Halo 3 Downloadable Map Pack
The Fight Continues - Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack Arrives in AprilThe award-winning “Halo 3” multiplayer experience continues to evolve with three new maps available only on Xbox LIVE Marketplace
More than 7.3 million copies of “Halo 3” have flown off store shelves, upwards of 500 million hours of frag-tacular online gameplay have been logged on Xbox LIVE and the Heroic Map Pack has been downloaded by 1 million plus gamers and counting. But it’s not over yet…
Microsoft and Bungie today announced that April 15 will mark the release of the next wave of “Halo 3” downloadable content. Available exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points, the Legendary Map Pack will introduce three new maps to the title’s award-winning multiplayer experience, Ghost Town, Avalanche, and one map yet to be revealed. And with the addition of some exciting Forge options, fans can explore new ways to create and share their custom “Halo 3” content.
Ghost Town is a battle-scarred maze of narrow passages and dangerous ruins outside the once-prosperous city of Voi. Collapsed ceilings and shell-battered buildings provide both valuable cover and deadly traps, as catwalks and stairways take the fight from claustrophobic ground combat to dizzying rooftop battles. Ghost Town is a mid-sized map ideal for Team Slayer games and smaller, objective types.
The second map, Avalanche, is a tribute to Sidewinder, a “Halo: Combat Evolved” fan-favorite. This massive, vehicle-oriented objective map adds a twist to its classic predecessor with all new interiors, dramatically reshaped exteriors and brand new vehicle variants. Take a ride and admire the visual variety from the cockpit of the retuned Hornet.
The third map to be included in the Legendary Pack has yet to be announced, but stay tuned to Bungie.net for full details on another returning classic… fans of smaller Slayer maps, it’s time to get excited.

COD4 title update now live
The long-awaited title update for Call of Duty 4 has finally passed Microsoft’s rigorous certification process.
The next time you play COD4(assuming you’re connected to Live) you’ll be prompted to download the update.
Here is a full list of what’s included in the patch:
New Kill Cams - Everything that can kill you has a Kill Cam now. Grenades, Airstrikes, Claymores, C4, M203 Rounds, RPGs, anything. So jump online, get owned alittle and check them out. They’re awesome, especially Grenades and M203 shots that go across the map and through a window.
Host Migration - Host migration was added, so now when the host leaves you won’t get dropped back to your own lobby by yourself. Everyone will stay together. Host Leaves, everyone returns to lobby, selects next best host, and the game starts up again. No more re-inviting, re-partying up because a host ended the game.
Improved Sniper Accuracy - The Sniper rifle accuracy has been improved. No more, WTF? shots now. Your cross hair will be a better representation of where your shot will ultimately land. Try out a sniper class today, let us know how the new accuracy feels.
Improved ACOG Scope Accuracy - ACOG scopes accuracy on any weapon has been improved. Test it out, throw it on one of your classes and give it a go.
Upgraded Spectator Cam - Now when you’re a spectator you have the option to follow in 3rd person or 1st person. As well as rotate 360 degrees around the player you’re watching. Next time you’re dead in Search and Destroy and just watching your team mates do stuff you know you can do better, now do it in 1st person or rotate around them.
Quick Mute Option - Now you can easily and quickly mute players in-game or in-lobby without ever going through the Xbox Live blades. Just go to their gamertag on screen and hit ‘A’ to quick mute in lobby, or via the in-game scoreboard if playing. Quick. Easy. Salvation!
In addition to these feature additions there will also be:
Improved Network Performance For Larger Games - 18 player games now require more bandwidth to host, resulting in smoother performance for players.
Optimized Server Selection for First Match - Server selection is now optimized to select best bandwidth servers associated by LSP.
Fixed “Playlist Older Than Host” Error - Player will no longer get this error when entering games.
Additional Start Spawn Locations in All Maps - Added a minimum of 9 extra start spawns on each side of all maps
The next time you play COD4(assuming you’re connected to Live) you’ll be prompted to download the update.

Xbox to stop making HD DVD add-on

Xbox to stop making HD DVD add-on
About 300,000 of the HD DVD add-ons have been sold
Microsoft has decided to stop making the HD DVD add-on for its Xbox 360 games console after Toshiba abandoned the high definition DVD format.
Toshiba estimated last week that about 300,000 of the add-ons had been sold.
Microsoft was one of the key backers for the HD DVD format, competing with Blu-ray, which was the format available in Sony's rival PlayStation 3 console.
Microsoft said it would continue to provide warranty support for the $130 (£115 in the UK) HD DVD add-on.
Last week, Toshiba said it would stop production of HD DVD players and recorders after major film studios decided to back Sony's Blu-ray format instead.
Toshiba said the tipping point came last month when Warner Brothers decided to release its movies only in Blu-ray.
The Xbox add-ons sold represented 30% of the one million HD DVD devices that were sold worldwide.
That compares unfavourably with the 10.5 million PS3s sold by Sony, which come with a built-in Blu-ray drive.

Xbox to deliver community games

Xbox to deliver community games
By Darren Waters
Technology editor, BBC News website, in San Francisco
Little Gamers is one of the first community titles
Hobbyist game developers will be able to share their "home brew" titles over Microsoft's Xbox Live online service.
The company has launched a community driven service that will let amateur creators build and distribute games.
"Ten million people will be able to play your games," said Microsoft's Chris Satchell, at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Microsoft also announced a sequel to its four and a half million-selling game Gears of War.
"I think of this as gaming created by the community and managed by the community but enjoyed by everyone," said Mr Satchell of the new game distribution system.
'Democratisation'
Microsoft freely distributes tools, called XNA, which gives amateur developers the chance to build games for the Xbox 360 and for Windows.
But until now the games could not be shared. The tools have been downloaded 800,000 times and more than 400 universities worldwide are using the XNA package.
Mr Satchell said it was the democratisation of development and distribution.
"There are tens of thousands of developers out there chomping at the bit; we need to unlock that potential," said John Schappert, head of Live services.
Microsoft also announced that it was planning a revenue sharing model for the community games distributed over Xbox Live.

Brain control headset for gamers
Ok spootted on BBC website, one does wonder where it says jell on head if this means in future gamers will be ID by being Bald!??

Brain control headset for gamers
By Darren Waters
Technology editor, BBC News website, San Francisco
Emotiv's Tan Le wears the Epoc headset
Gamers will soon be able to interact with the virtual world using their thoughts and emotions alone.
A neuro-headset which interprets the interaction of neurons in the brain will go on sale later this year.
"It picks up electrical activity from the brain and sends wireless signals to a computer," said Tan Le, president of US/Australian firm Emotiv.
"It allows the user to manipulate a game or virtual environment naturally and intuitively," she added.
The brain is made up of about 100 billion nerve cells, or neurons, which emit an electrical impulse when interacting. The headset implements a technology known as non-invasive electroencephalography (EEG) to read the neural activity.
Ms Le said: "Emotiv is a neuro-engineering company and we've created a brain computer interface that reads electrical impulses in the brain and translates them into commands that a video game can accept and control the game dynamically."
See how the headset works
Headsets which read neural activity are not new, but Ms Le said the Epoc was the first consumer device that can be used for gaming.
"This is the first headset that doesn't require a large net of electrodes, or a technician to calibrate or operate it and does require gel on the scalp," she said. "It also doesn't cost tens of thousands of dollars."
The use of Electroencephalography in medical practice dates back almost 100 years but it is only since the 1970s that the procedure has been used to explore brain computer interfaces.
The headset could be used to improve the realism of emotional responses of AI characters in games
Tan Le, Emotiv
The Epoc technology can be used to give authentic facial expressions to avatars of gamers in virtual worlds. For example, if the player smiles, winks, grimaces the headset can detect the expression and translate it to the avatar in game.
It can also read emotions of players and translate those to the virtual world. "The headset could be used to improve the realism of emotional responses of AI characters in games," said Ms Le.
"If you laughed or felt happy after killing a character in a game then your virtual buddy could admonish you for being callous," she explained.
The $299 headset has a gyroscope to detect movement and has wireless capabilities to communicate with a USB dongle plugged into a computer.
The Emotiv said the headset could detects more than 30 different expressions, emotions and actions.
They include excitement, meditation, tension and frustration; facial expressions such as smile, laugh, wink, shock (eyebrows raised), anger (eyebrows furrowed); and cognitive actions such as push, pull, lift, drop and rotate (on six different axis).
Gamers are able to move objects in the world just by thinking of the action.
Emotiv is working with IBM to develop the technology for uses in "strategic enterprise business markets and virtual worlds"
Paul Ledak, vice president, IBM Digital Convergence said brain computer interfaces, like the Epoc headset were an important component of the future 3D Internet and the future of virtual communication.

THOUGHT-CONTROLLED GAMING HEADSET
Sensors respond to the electrical impulses behind different thoughts; enabling a user's brain to influence gameplay directly
Conscious thoughts, facial expressions, and non-conscious emotions can all be detected
Gyroscope enables a cursor or camera to be controlled by head movements
The headset uses wi-fi to connect to a computer

Mastering Achievements in Call of Duty 4
Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare™ is filled with achievements both natural and grueling, and while few of them would be considered freebies, you don't need sheer luck and ridiculous skill to unlock the full 1,000 Gamerscore.
Instead, good tactics and a healthy helping of dedication will do the trick.
While the dedication is up to you, the following tips should help you along the way.
Soldier your way to a higher Gamerscore.
Every bit of the 1,000 Gamerscore points offered by Call of Duty 4 can be found in the single-player Campaign and most of those come courtesy of the Veteran difficulty level.
This is a strictly single-player affair.
One inch at a time: More than anything else, Veteran difficulty punishes a player for running and gunning. Enemies are simply far too accurate, intelligent, and plentiful for you to find any success sprinting through levels across open ground.
You must exercise a great deal more patience than you would normally allow for in a first-person shooter.
Time to push!: While patience is crucial when deciding when and how to move from cover, you must also be on the lookout for sections of a level where enemies seem to spawn endlessly.
It's here that your only option is to push forward towards the checkpoint.
If you don't, the enemy reinforcements will never cease and you'll be stuck right where you are. Try looking for that lull between the time when you've thinned the ranks and when the "new spawns" arrive.
Squad reliance: Your squad-mates in Call of Duty 4 are well-trained, effective soldiers that will reward you for sticking by their side. Try not to freelance too often on your own as long you've got squad members anywhere nearby.
Wall piercing: The ability to eliminate enemies by shooting through walls is just cool in the earlier difficulty settings, but on Veteran it's downright necessary. Use this to your advantage at every opportunity.
Pause map: Hitting Start to bring up the Pause menu is worthwhile just to catch your breath, but in Call of Duty 4 there's a more compelling reason.
You'll find a map with highlighted enemy locations in the lower-right-hand-corner of your Pause menu.
Use this consistently throughout each battle and you'll go a long way to avoiding ambushes and flanking attacks.
There's no multiplayer-specific achievements, so those without Xbox LIVE need not miss out on a single point.
Mile High Club
Of all the Call of Duty 4 achievements, and, indeed, any achievement across any game, the Mile High Club ranks among the toughest and most grueling to acquire.
First, you must complete the game and watch through the end of the credits where you'll be granted access to this bonus mission. Second, you must play through and complete the bonus mission on Veteran difficulty.
This may not seem initially daunting until you realize that you have but a bare minute to complete the whole mission.
Only the most talented gamer can hope to unlock this achievement after only a couple of tries, but there are a few tips that can at the very least ease the challenge.
Trial runs: You won't score this achievement your first time through, so don't even try. Instead, use your first few attempts as reconnaissance to help you memorize every enemy location and their A.I. paths and patterns. Only when you can predict where they'll be and what they'll do is there a hope of success.
Flashbang use: Tackling tight-knit groups of enemies in the cramped confines of an airliner borders on suicide. Once you've memorized the enemy's locations, gain the upper hand by immediately throwing a flashbang to stun them, and then charge in to finish them off before they can recover.
Only use your flashbangs on groups and not on individuals.
Sprint man, sprint!: You must sprint down every hallway and up every stairway when you're not actively engaged with the enemy.
Shoot what's necessary: You can run by some enemies (especially the ones you stun) without having to engage them. This can help shave another second or two off your time, so unless they're in your way and shooting at you, ignore them if possible.
Final shot: When the final door opens with the terrorist holding the hostage at gun point, don't shoot immediately. This is the moment of truth and an errant shot will ruin the mission. Instead, wait until the hostage's head is out of the way to get a nice, clear shot.
Ghillies in the Mist: Complete "All Ghillied Up" without alerting any enemies (20 points)
This flashback sniper mission is heavy on stealth and tension, and you're going to want to keep it that way in order to complete this achievement.
Guarantee success by engaging only the enemies that Cpt. MacMillian asks you specifically to target. Otherwise, avoid every patrol and guard.
This very much includes the guards that McMillian gives you the "option" of shooting. Always opt to let them pass. Otherwise, other enemies will find their body later on and raise the alert, effectively eliminating any opportunity for this achievement.
Down Boy Down: Survive a dog attack (20 points)
All that's needed here is to let a dog pounce on you and then click down on the right stick when the icon pops up on the screen. It's easy enough, except that there's only a few dogs found throughout the game. Make things easier on yourself by giving this achievement a go immediately following a checkpoint where you know dogs are present (All Ghillied Up is a good mission for this). Then, if you fail, you can immediately respawn at the checkpoint for another quick attempt.
Daredevil: Kill an enemy while blinded by a flashbang in the single-player campaign (10 points)There's a number of opportunities to score this achievement throughout Call of Duty 4, but if you're having trouble getting the kill, try tossing a grenade instead of firing blindly. The blast radius will do what your eyes can't, find and eliminate the enemy.
Rescue Roycewicz: Save Private Roycewicz on the stairs (20 points)
You can find the location for this achievement near the very beginning of The Bog level in the first building you enter. When you've cleared the entrance to the building, find the flight of stairs on the right-hand side of the first hallway. You should see Roycewicz ahead of you. Simply run up ahead of him and take out the enemy at the top of the stairs.
Man of the People: Save the farmer (10 points)
The farmer in question is found in the Hunted level in the very first farm you approach. Once Captain Price opens the door to the barn, immediately head upstairs and run to the opposite end so you're looking down at the enemy soldiers and the hapless farmer. The trick here is that you can't save him until Cpt. Price gives the order, so wait patiently. Then, when he does, open fire on the soldier threatening the farmer and you should unlock the achievement.
New Squadron Record: Complete the cargo ship mockup in less than 20 seconds (20 points)
The cargo ship training course is found on the first level, and while it takes skill and speed to wrap this achievement up, the good news is that you can run the course as many times as it takes to get under twenty seconds.
Here are a few tips to speed up the process:
You'll knock off up to three seconds from your time if you're accurate, so use only a bullet or two for each target.
Begin strafing around to the side entrance post-haste as soon as you land. You can shoot the first few targets through the wall if necessary.
Memorize the flashbang locations and start "cooking" (hold down LB) your flashbangs before you even round the corner to throw them. This will cut off a bit of the animation time, helping you to shave an extra precious second or two off your overall time.
Straight Flush: Kill five enemies with one shot while in the AC-130 gunship (20 points)
You should be able to score this on the Death from Above level. Wait until the first platoon of enemies makes an appearance and target your 105mm cannon right in the middle of the group. You may also want to aim just a shade in the direction that the enemies are running to account for the time delay before impact.
Protect that pig!
Your Show Sucks: Destroy all the TVs showing Al-Asad's speech (20 points)
There are a couple of misconceptions that have prevented folks from nabbing this achievement. First, the only TVs you need to destroy are located in the Charlie Don't Surf level. You may see other TVs broadcasting the speech in other levels, but you don't need to shoot them for this achievement (feel free though, it's still fun). Secondly, the TVs are scattered throughout the Charlie Don't Surf level. They're not just found in the TV station, so make sure you scour the level thoroughly.
Three of a Kind: Kill 3 enemies in a row with your knife in the single-player campaign (10 points) If you're having trouble with this achievement, try dropping down the difficulty to Normal or Easy and just bull rush the enemies. You take so little damage on the easier difficulties that you should be able to unlock Three of a Kind in no time.
Bird on the Ground: Shoot down an enemy helicopter with an RPG in the single-player campaign (20 points)
Again, confusion over the achievement's task has caused many a gamer to believe they have completed this achievement but not received the proper credit. Bird on a Ground requires the use of an RPG, not the more commonly found laser-guided rocket launchers. You can find both an old-fashioned RPG and a helicopter at the beginning of the War Pig level. The RPGs and the helicopters are found behind the bus located directly in front of you as the level begins.
Call of Duty 4 represents a rare chance for all gamers to unlock the full 1,000 Gamerscore. There's no multiplayer-specific achievements, so those without Xbox LIVE® need not miss out on a single point, and none of the achievements can be considered beyond the scope of a skilled and dedicated gamer. Good luck, soldier!

You may also want to aim just a shade in the direction that the enemies are running to account for the time delay before impact.

Goodbye....so long....
Well. After some thought about the whole thing, I'm off. By that I mean that I won't be contributing to the blog at the same level as I have been (I may well still bung up the odd post) and won't be whoring my arse for spots in magazines etc. I have some other 'Projects' I want time to start thinking about and I want my xbox gaming to return to what it used to be without the general hassle of CODDAY as a clan thing. In addition to this for reasons I'm not going to go into, I doubt I will be coming along to Warfighters in June.
I'm sure that we'll all still play some games together but, the crap I get from being in the mags and from being in a clan is getting a little boring... to be honest I can't really be bothered with it all. They may even be a gamertag change too to avoid the junk mail on my xbox.
If the Gamertag changes, genuine friends will know but 'random gamers' who are on my list will probably find that I appear to disappear from live altogether.....
I hope you all continue to have a good laugh with the whole clan thing and the website. Might be worth someone else starting a new on as I started the current one and if/as and when I need space on blogger, it will get deleted.
See you on LIVE (perhaps) Pete.

more info on "codday day out 2"
Hi all
i have just got some new info in what we will be getting upto in June:
The day will be as follows:
Combat Induction -
Book- In -
Health & Safety Guidelines -
Mission Objectives Explained -
Weapons Skills Training -
Kit-Up for Action -
Kill House Operations -
Team Kill Tactical Skills
The first part of the day involves the group being split.
One group will use the projectile range and the other will use the CQB house.
Each group will learn how to sight aim and fire a pistol and assault rifle.
A number of dynamic skills are demonstrated including learning how to fire from both left and right handed positions.
The CQB skills include learning how to sweep and search a series of rooms and walkways learning the best way to tactically enter and clear a hostile area.
Stage 1 Each member of your team will be coached through the CQB section on an instructor to player basis.
The next level is simulated gas where your team has to clear a level equipped with special forces gas masks.
Stage 2 After stage 1 has been completed we switch your weapons to .43 tactical markers.
Your team will then be set a number of time sensitive scenarios to complete against live attackers who will shoot at you until taken down.
These include:- Rescue a hostage - Search and Clear - Locate and disarm an explosive device- Team on Team - Escort a VIP
thanks to Dave at Warfighters for the info

In your face microsoft...
Apple have stepped up and released another update for APPLE TV which now includes TV SHOWS, MOVIES, YOU TUBE and FLIKR all on your TV.
Good news for me as I am a PC hater and a long term Mac user, and I already have Apple TV at home.
Click here to see the far superior interface for downloading/renting tv shows, movies and stuff. Kinda makes the 360 dashboard design look awful (personally I always thought the design was crap and was one area that the PS3 pisses all over the 360)

CODDAY PART 2 (UPDATE)
Hello all
we have been speaking to people about this years "big day out" and the tank balling sounds fun some people think it may be to expencive.
So i have spoken to Warfighters and have sorted us a day with the Rainbow 6 boys.
The cost = £55.00 (trying to get some more discount)
The place = Onley Fields Farm, Onley Lane, Barby, Northamptonshire, CV23 8UU
The date = 14th June 2008
hotel = £50.00 per room per night (so shairing £25.00 each per night)
A Typical Day Would Include:
Combat InductionBook
InHealth & Safety Guidelines
This ultra exciting event from WarFighters is guaranteed to get the adrenaline pumping to the max.
You will become part of a 4-man team who have a very special mission to complete, but before doing so you will need to be trained and practise your skills at the R6 CQB Centre.
Overview: 1- Mission Objective and Briefing
2- Weapon Handling Skills - Handgun and Rifle
3- Basic Room Clearance and Searching Skills
4- Communications
5- Hostage Extraction Procedure
The first part of your day will be learning how to use your weapons in a confined area.
This training will take place at the R6 centre using the range and CQB House.
You will improve your marksmanship using pistols and sub machine guns learning how to engage multiple targets.
You will then progress to the CQB House which is a specially constructed area containing multiple rooms and hide outs.
Your drills will include clearing the rooms of mock and live targets.
Live targets shoot back so you will need to be very alert.
Some rooms will be filled with simulated gas, so you will need to wear a military gas mask which makes your job even harder.
Rogue Dagger makes use of all our simulated weapon systems which include Airsoft BB guns, RAP-4 Military Markers and IR-Tactical Lasers.
I need to know numbers for the day and hotel (nights?) by the 14th Feb

Army.Xbox360
OK! so I watch too much late night TV and strange programs sometimes. While watching something very educational on one such channel I spied an advert for our great British army, which I had to double check.
ARMY VIDEO
Did you spot it!
Wow our army uses Xbox360's
Where do I get that game?

Rock this Bitch!
Well the nice people at GAME store in Cambs gave me a rather generous amount of cash for some xbox 1 games that were literally gathering dust + a couple of 360 games that were simply never getting played, coupled with a very do-able £17 of my own money got me a copy of GUITAR HERO 3 at the weekend. Never thought I would be into a "Rhythm" game but I have to say I'm Hooked....tons of replay value and a right laugh when your mates are over!
If you have never tried the Guitar Hero Franchise before, I can recommend it....certainly makes a change from all the guns and screeching tyres!! The bundle is quite expensive but if you've got junk lying around to trade in...do it!

Omega 5
If you like a proper shooter and remember the genius that was R-TYPE back in the day (I certainly remember shoving 5p's in the coin-op on Worthing Pier when I was a kid) you should download OMEGA 5 from the marketplace, it really is the closest thing to R-TYPE I have seen in years. A proper Japanese 3D/2D shooter that will keep everyone happy until IKARUGA comes out... Get it!!!
click here for the original r-type audio....aaahhh memories!
Oh, and is anyone else far too excited that REZ is coming out this year?

Footfall doesn't. (fall)
Gold star from teacher and a little round of applause from the other kids in the class...
On Live last night [CODD] FOOTFALL managed 46 kills with a streak of 25 kills, only being killed twice.
Which is great as FOOTFALL nicely balances out how shit I am in clan matches!!!
I'd hate to think how good he's gonna be when he gets an HDTV and can really see what's going on!!

First Details of this years day out.
TANK PAINTBALL!!!!!!
Right.....
We are going to be going tank paintballing on 14th June. It costs (give or take a few quid) £100 for the day, I realise this is double the cost of last years event at Warfighters but the variation sounds good. Start with Tank Paintball (every time I type that, I laugh a little inside) which will be something like several tanks in a field with three people per tank firing 40mm paintballs at each other....awesome. The organisers throw us some lunch, and then in the afternoon we all have a lash at some regular paintballing in the woods.
The company is called CHAOS PAINTBALL and their site can be found here
CHAOS PAINTBALL also have Off-road buggies, hovercrafts and archery to piss about with.
It's not too far from the hotel in Northampton we stayed at last time which works out at about £25 each for the night. Might look for another hotel cos that one was a bit shit, but it did have plenty of parking and was in the town centre. It's grim up north (so they tell me) and Northampton was alarmingly full of evil Friday night sluts which made for an interesting (albeit rather frightening) night out.
If you're coming, we will need to know and have your money (perhaps only a deposit) by the END OF FEBRUARY so we can book. Once we have a final list of names we can make the booking and final prices per person will be set, depending on the numbers we will be able to get a small discount. You will also receive a personalised CODDAY T-Shirt as a momento of the day, T-shirt design can be seen elsewhere on this blog.
If everyone would prefer to go to Warfighters this could be arranged, however most of us have already done that and something different would be good, that and some of us were a little disappointed at Warfighters because of a lack of vehicles and grenades, only due to the fact the guys had moved site and not everything was up and running. However Warfighters are now more established at their new site and also have fantastic new weapons and a Rainbow Six style day. We all had a real blast last year at Warfighters and I think we would all like to go back, but we're thinking in the autumn for Jonzee's Birthday instead of the CODDAY big day out.
If you're up for it, the usual restrictions apply, send either MGB DUDE or PAWNK1NG a message over xbox live, over 21s only, don't bring your mum (unless she's fit), make sure you have plenty of beer money as we will get horribly pissed afterwards.

OK, here we go...BIG DAY OUT PART DEUX! We're thinking about "Tank Paintball" (more details to follow) but here is the current preferred Tee Shirt design. Obviously all personalised to your individual gamertag. Design may alter slightly as the next few months pass, usually down to costs, more colours, more ink, more money...you get the idea. Leave comments if you like, and I'll ignore them at my leisure.
Cheers

Call of duty 5
Call Of Duty 5 Heading For The Pacific?
Yes, Treyarch are indeed hard at work on Call of Duty 5. And that, yes, the series is heading back to World War II.
That's the stuff we'd heard already. What we didn't know is that, according to this tipster, the game's set in the under-utilized Pacific theater, something only one major WWII shooter - the awful Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault - has tried before. While (if true) the move back to well-worn WWII is mostly disappointing, if this game can branch out and explore some of the less "popular" aspects of the conflict

Dear Xbox LIVE Members:
During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.
As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.
At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.
Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!
Sincerely,
Marc Whitten

Third Party "360"?
UK, January 3, 2008 - Microsoft's head honcho Bill Gates is due to make his final keynote speech at next week's Consumer Electronics Show, and many are speculating he is to go out with a bang with the announcement of a new flavour for the Xbox 360.
The murmurings began with a column by Brier Dudley in The Seattle Times, a source close to Microsoft, in which some educated guesswork about the contents of Gates' swansong was aired. These ranged from the fairly pedestrian – a focused convergence between the Xbox Live, Zune and Media Center teams to offer a one-stop service for content – to the more bravado anticipation of a new variety of Xbox 360, adding to the various choices already available. Dudley outlined the possibility of Microsoft licensing out their technology to a third party "…to develop a digital video recorder with a hard-drive, high-definition HD-DVD drive and Xbox gaming capabilities."
Already the rumour has snowballed, with Stuff Magazine going as far to outline specifications of the new Xbox, alongside a speculative street date of Autumn 2008 and the moniker of Xbox Ultimate. Among the features they expect to see are the aforementioned HD-DVD drive, built-in Wi-Fi, a more muted fan and a 320GB hard disk that would enable users to fully benefit from the Xbox IPTV service.
Unsurprisingly, Microsoft UK were not willing to offer comment on the growing specula
Thanks to IGN.COM for the info.
Reminds me a little of the DVD enabled, chrome Panasonic Gamecube which only came out in Japan...There's one for sale in Cambridge in a shop called GAMETRON EXCHANGE incase anyone is interested....
On another note, it's 2008 which means REZ HD is out this year!!! W00T!
